What I Want to Major In

Now that I am in high school, I should start thinking about what I want to major in. Choosing a major is hard and it could change the course of your life. This website I have created goes over every major I am considering.

My Options

Industrial Engineering

I love engineering and I love programming. That is why I would like to get a job one day in industrial engineering! Industrial engineering is fun because you get to build overcomplicated machines to do very specific and specialized tasks such a bending sheet metal into different shapes or bottling soda. What makes industrial engineering especially fun is trying to figure out what innovative methods you can use to get the desired result as efficiently and as high quality as possible. Industrial engineering is also fun because you get to mess around with big, expensive motors and conveyor belts. That would be a lot of fun!

Why Industrial Engineering?

Ever since I was a little kid, my favorite shows on TV were the shows that showed automation and big machines at work. My favorite of those shows was Mighty Machines. I especially love the episode where they show how a recycling center works and a tree cutting factory. Another thing that is a big inspiration are airport conveyor belt systems. Airports are cool because there is a vast network of conveyor belts delivering bags to where they need to go. Better yet, the airports belt system is fully automatic which is very cool. Watching those kinds of shows at a young age inspired me to do engineering later in life.

Software Engineering

Software engineering is a very fun field of research to get into. You can do some pretty amazing things with a computer if you know what you are doing. For example, you can develop video games in a game engine or even program the game engine itself. A job is software engineering may be becoming a less realistic job though thanks to the rise of ai taking jobs in the industry.

Why Software Engineering?

Software engineering is usually a very high paying job. Often times you can do your job remotely. I also really enjoy programming and making cool things with code. some Examples include my This is a Game Series, Chirper, and World Wide Clicker. Unfortunately, a job in software engineering may be unrealistic thanks to artificial intelligence.

Here is a link to a game I made with html and javascript that you can try out! It is a recreation of the New York Times connections game. Connections

Software Engineering Examples

World Wide Clicker

World Wide Clicker is a browser clicker game I developed that combines webservers and databases to create cooperative, multiplayer clicker game. In this game, you can farm materials and upgrade your tools to get more power. Players work towards goals to enter new ages of technology.

This is a game Series

The this is a game series is a series of games I made with html and javascript that show off cool things you can do with javascript. The games feature puzzles, fun effects and more. Also, a new series similiar to this is releasing soon called this is a website.

Chirper

Chirper could be called my magnum opus. It is a culmination of all of my skills combined into one project. It makes use of a node.js server and a database to be able to store and manage accounts. When you are logged into the website, you can post messages and read other people's messages. Some of the code is a bit jank but I will create a newer and better version soon so keep your eyes peeled! Some cool features the website has is email verification, a database and filter system.
